Camp host – person who lives onsite managing campgrounds
Couples Housing – Special rooms set aside for couples to share. These could be a tiny studio or cabin, or a shared room in an apartment with other people.
Contract – the official agreement outlining your work dates and pay
Dockhand – worker at a marina or lake resort assisting boats and guests
Double – working two shifts back to back.
DNR – Do Not Rehire. This is the kiss of death and means you’re blacklisted from a company. You might not even be able to put your experience on a resume because they’ll say they wouldn’t hire you back if someone was to call and ask.
EDR – Employee Dining Room, will be apart of your employee housing package. 3 meals provided a day in a cafeteria setting.
Employee Housing/Housing – Most seasonal jobs will offer you a bed for very cheap, possibly even free.
End Date – When your season officially ends, normally have around 2 days to leave and move out of housing after this date
FOH/BOH – Front of house (guest facing), Back of House (kitchen, behind the scenes)
H2B’s – Visa for internationals who are not in school
J1’s – International workers here on a Student Visa.
Lifty – Chairlift Crew at a Ski Resort
Mud Season/Shoulder Season – Also known as slow season. Pretty much Spring and Fall. Winter Season starts winding down after Presidents Day Weekend. Summer Season starts winding down after Labor Day.
Nomad – someone who travels often and doesn’t stay in one place too long
Off Season – most operations closed and almost no workers
Onboarding – The process that takes place in between getting hired and being able to work.
Orientation – Usually the day after you check-in and move into your room. Orientation is your official first training and introduction session.
Parkies – Seasonal workers working for the National Parks or State Parks
Peak Season – the busiest part of the year for business.
Perks – employee benefits (discounts, free meals, etc.)
Rafty – Raft Guides, known for odd behavior and drinking beer out of a boot
Returner – Someone who has worked at a place previously
Seasonal Work – temporary work that lasts for a specific time frame
Survivor Party – the one at the end of the season after most of the tourists have left and its just the closing crew to drink all of the beer.
Touron – dumb tourists
Trail Crew – workers who maintain hiking or biking trails
